Writing a great song

Hi again - how is it?

I want to talk about writing songs.

If you are a writer who just lets it stream out from the heart - songs usually end up dealing with your feelings and you'll probably end up using the main words of the chorus as the title. For a change why not try this?

Find a title first and build the lyric around that. I wonder if Radiohead starting writing a song and then the word myxamatosis seemed right OR they liked the word as a title and wrote the lyrics around it.

Look around you - check the papers - think of the things that move you and title them! It should open up new avenues for interesting lyrics!

Why not post some titles that you find interesting (that you wont use).

While I'm sitting here I just thought of My Desk, (not that poetic - but I can already see that I spend so much time here that it could easily become a metaphor for my life. 'Its messy and cluttered but everything's to hand from erasers to jotters......') you get the idea.

More next time!

Creativity

Hey everyone - this is the first blog to all out there who I hope will join me on a ride to make good music and get it out onto the net - so we can all make a little something and share a little joy.

I'm John, The RocknRoll Coach and you can find out more about me and what I do from my website www.johnsammers.com but for now I want to kick things off with this remark that came up at the pub.

Do people in the rock business get less creative when they get older or just when they stop taking so many drugs? Look at Bowie, The Stones, Aerosmith etc.

Is creativity an energy thing, a driven thing or a fuelled thing?

Have fun. Look forward to your comments

John
